When is a separate TREX installation required for SAP Solution Manager, and when can it be skipped?
TREX powers search for Solution Documentation, ChaRM, and ITSM. Without it, business-process modeling tools (executable-library / process-step-library lookups) effectively don't work — so it is functionally mandatory in most deployments.
Exception: if Solution Manager runs on SAP HANA, you don't need a separate TREX installation — HANA's built-in search capability replaces it.
