In Solution Manager, what does a 'solution' actually represent?

The logical organization of all SAP components and their interfacing systems across your landscape — ERP, BW, CRM, SCM, Fiori front-end server, Web Dispatcher, and so on.

It should span every system from where transports and changes originate through to implementation, including the sandbox that receives production updates.
